UKRAINIAN SOUP: A TASTE OF HOME

What keeps you connected to your roots in the hardest times, a reminder of home when all else is uncertain? This moving play is based on real stories of people who faced the war in Ukraine and lived under occupation for a time. It tells not only about the war but also about how the traditional Ukrainian dish — borscht, which carries the strength of the land, the spirit of family and home, can become a pillar in the most difficult times when everything you've built your whole life suddenly collapses. The performance is based on the play by Maryna Smilianets, originally titled “Borscht. My Great-Grandmas’  Recipes For Survival”.

This play is not only about Ukrainians but about the whole world. Every nation, culture, and family has its own special dish that brings people together around one table. Borscht becomes a universal symbol, a recipe for life, which, like in our play, can change and even save lives in the most challenging times. And what is your Borscht that keeps you warm and brings you home?

Mission

Art has a powerful voice, and we believe Ukrainian artists must use it to share the truth—the harsh reality of war and the identity of its aggressor.

We come from a developed European country with a rich history and a vibrant culture. As Ukrainians, we stand not only for our homeland but for peace and democracy across all of Europe. It is our responsibility to ensure that this message reaches the world.

We see theater as a powerful tool, particularly in the UK, where it has long influenced audiences, engaged the media, and shaped public discourse. By creating immersive cultural experiences, we invite people to step into our story—to understand that we are Europeans, fighting to protect our home and our shared values. The stronger this connection, the greater the support and attention Ukraine will receive.
